Phone Wallet: (Almost) Essential Add On!
With the current way of life, every other day we are signing up for a new services online and that means more usernames, passwords and so on to remember in addition to the thousand other things the mind is already occupied with. I personally have been faced with the situation of forgetting my passwords for sites I do not use much, many a time.
There was a time when most Nokia S60 phones came with a built in wallet application called wallet which could encrypt and store all your usernames, passwords, credit card details, notes etc. Sadly, that has been discontinued! Basically what I’m hinting at is that there is a need for a application that keeps track of all of these little things and we just need to remember one password that gives us access to everything. The application that comes closest to doing this is Phone Wallet by SymbianGuru.
Phone Wallet ia an application that safely secures and flexibly organizes your confidential data like passwords, credit card data, agreements, sensitive dates. It is fairly light and has a snappy interface. The launch on an N95 is almost instantaneous, which is something I like. On running the application for the first time you are greeted with a set password dialog box and after that setting up the rest is easy.
As you can see there are many fields available for data entry, there are five predefined folders with predefined records stored in each of them. Every record has fields where you can enter your information. These would cover most things but for other things that might not fit, there is the notes section too. However, the length of the note is limited and this is something I hate. Personally I would appreciate the ability to save longer notes, it is irritating to break something up into sections and then store it. (Something to work on for the next version may be?)
Phone Wallet is also very customisable. You can create folders within folders, move folders within folders and so on. There is no limit on the records also. An auto lock option is also implemented and for greater security a lock in background option is also available. Neat. The ability to control the layout is also present.
- AutoLock and Background Lock options.
- Total flexibility for adding, deleting and editing of folders, records and fields
- Most fields already defined.
- Limit on the length on notes.
- Inability to export all saved data into a file and import later if needed. (Not that its implemented in other applications, but it would be extremely useful if you have multiple devices or after a format or a firmware upgrade.)
If you are somebody who needs to remember internet, PC, FTP, Login and mail passwords, business information, confidential contacts, financial information, credit card info, access passwords and so on, this reasonably priced application is for you!
