The Nokia 5800 express music phone will be officially announced in a few minutes from now, but Jason from Symbian SmashPop has already published a preview of Nokia’s first S60 touchscreen device. From what we had seen until now, the device looked thick and ugly, but these latest reports tell a different story. According to him, the screen will support a resolution of 640x360px and will also pack Haptic Feedback. Yes, you read that correctly. In his words, “It feels very different from the other touchscreens I’ve tried. This one doesn’t feel like vibration. It feels more like erm… a 0.5mm nudge.. which feels a lot more solid than the rest.”
[Update: This is provided via general vibra feedback, it is not specific to the area of the screen you touch.]
Another innovation on the phone is the Xpress Music touch sensitive key which when once touched, will make the quick access media bar appear, which gives access to Music, Photos, Share Online, Videos and Internet.
The expected set of specifications including Symbian OS 5.0, 3.2mpx Carl Zeiss Optics camera, 30fps DVD-like video recording, dual LED flash and GPS are all there. A micro USB port and a 3.5mm jack are also present.
In my book, the 5800 suddenly looks much more tempting – haptic feedback, a killer screen, great music capabilities. Through out the evening I will keep you posted on the absolute latest. Meanwhile Jason has also shared two videos of the 5800 in action, have a look and jump over for more live pictures.
