[digg-me] One of the best phone’s Nokia’s ever made has hopefully just gotten better. The E71 has just received a seemingly major firmware update taking the ‘current’ version upto v200.21.118 from v110.07.127. The new firmware brings two news black and red themes along with an improvement in WLAN stability amongst a host of other things. Complete changelog below.
Details about the changes that it brings are thin at the moment and I’ll update this post as soon as we get more information. The ability to ‘hack’ the firmware has been blocked since v110 so those of you who are already on v110 or who simply don’t care can go ahead and update. The usual caveats about backing up your data etc apply, remember the E71 doesn’t have user data preservation unlike the newer FP2 devices.

I have an unlocked E71-2 running v100.07.76. I downloaded the Nokia Software Updater (in Brazilian Portuguese), and it only offers me the same version I already have.
Why is that?
I’ve written a detailed overview of the new firmware , it’s shortcomings and also how to correct the character keymap problem at

Since I updated I’ve got troubles connecting to data services. It first shows 3.5G, then falls back to 3G, but the connection still does not work, i.e. Browser stays blank. A reboot corrects the problem. Not completely sure if this comes from the update, though. I use Sunrise, Switzerland. Maybe they changed something, too. Can anyone confirm the problem?
Thanks,
R.

Has anyone tried using this phone in an EDGE data network area, if so, how was the speed of the browser on it, and if you also tried streaming video with, how was it with doing that? The reason I want to know is, I’m not in a AT&T 3g area, just EDGE. I’m trying to hold off to see if they will release a similar phone, but on Verizon’s CDMA network, since I believe Verizon has 3g in my area, but this phone just keeps tempting me with each positive review I read about it.
