Nokia 5800 NAM Gets V20 Via The NSU

The North American version of the Nokia 5800 that recently started selling again has received a major firmware update in the form of v20.2.014. The update is available via the NSU and should brings updates and bug fixes similar to the v20 that the Euro/APAC 5800 version was blessed with a month earlier.

Unfortunately, the change log isn’t available yet. Here are some of the updates that are expected to be included in the 5800 NAM’s v20 Firmware …

The Nokia E71 Hits v. 210.21.006 – Available In India

Nokia has just rolled out a 107.4 MB firmware update for the E71. Version  210.21.006 brings minor bug fixes and doesn’t seem to bring any substantial changes. The update is available via the NSU across Asia and Europe.

The usual caveats about backing up your data etc apply, remember the E71 doesn’t have user data preservation unlike the newer FP2 devices. I’m also glad to confirm that the update is available in India as well (Thanks Faridur!).

Nokia 5730 Slides Into Reality – Packs QWERTY

Nokia has just announced the 5730, a side sliding Xpress Music device which closely resembles the recently announced E75 as far as the form factor goes. It is also the first time that QWERTY is coming to the Xpress Music range. The handset runs on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, and packs a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi and GPS. Also onboard is the “Say and Play” feature first introduced in the Nokia 5320.

Prince Of Persia Now Out On N-Gage

I rarely write about games here on The Symbian Blog but Prince of Persia is a game I have played since the time I was a kid and have an affinity for it. The good news is that the game is now available on N-Gage via the N-Gage application’s showroom tab. Select “Options” and then “Update Now” to see it.

The Prince is back in a new kind of adventure in full 3D where cooperation with the mysterious Elika will let you perform actions never before seen on a mobile device …

Nokia Music Centric Device Coming On March 11?

At least that’s what it seems from the image up on events.nokia.com. Nokia has an all round device in the form of the N97 coming, the camera part is taken care of by the N86, the E55 and E75 are promising business devices but there isn’t an out and out music device that’s been announced recently.

The virtual event is scheduled for March 11 at 10:00 CET (2:30PM IST) and there are two live Q&A sessions scheduled for later in the day as well. This is what leads me to believe …

E55 v/s E71: How Much Of An Upgrade Is The E55 To The E71?

The venerable E71 has been the inspiration behind Nokia upcoming messaging device, the E55 which also holds the honor of being the slimmest smartphone from the Finnish manufacturer. It packs in quite a few never seen before goodies, like N-Gage and FP2 as far as the Eseries goes, but the question on my mind is that despite being more of a successor to the E51, does it have the capability of replacing my trusty E71.

As a blogger I often have the good fortune of playing with a lot of new …

Kinetic Scrolling Will Make A Huge Impact On The N97′s Browsing Capabilities

One of the things that I would really have liked to see on the Nokia 5800 was Flick/Kinetic Scrolling, despite the presence of a stylus and functionality like tap to zoom and tap for a page overview, surfing large webpages on a touch based device can become somewhat of a chore.

Vis-à-vis the the 5800, I had better expectations from the N97′s browser for the simple reason that the slideout keyboard brought much better data entry support and even a D pad for scrolling. The following video …

Nokia Has Just Impressed Me Big Time

Five minutes back I received a call from a Nokia representative, she wanted to know if it was a good time to talk. Luckily I wasn’t in class and could talk. She said she was calling in regard to my recently purchased Nokia 5800 Xpress Music device. She wanted to know if I was facing any problems with the device?

Since I have one of the first few batches of the device, I have faulty earpiece, a problem Nokia has acknowledged themselves. So I told her about the issue and the …
