How To Disable Camera Sound On Your Nokia

By - Vaibhav Sharma On 13 July 2009 191 Comments

I am sure all of you at some point or the other have wanted to turn of the camera/shutter sound while taking pictures or videos for a variety of reasons. While on a handful of product codes you can simply turn of the ‘Warning Tones’ from the profiles menu to silence the camera tone, on most handsets that tip doesn’t work.

How To Disable Camera Sound On Your Nokia

Enter this exceedingly small patch (under 1KB) that you can install to get rid of the annoying sound. There is no need to ‘hack’ your phone for this to work.

  • Install it and turn off the ‘Warning tones’ from the profiles menu. (If the warning tones are already set to off, then turn them on and then off).
  • If the camera sound is still not off, restart the phone once.

I have tested it on my N97 and E75, but the patch should work on other devices too. Enjoy.

E71 user: I got the mute-camera.sis from symbian website, received an email 2 hrs later to confirm my intention to let them sign it, i gave them my phones serial number (the *#06# thing) and received another email with the download link to the signed mute-camera.sis file. Then…

… I simply used Nokia PC Suite and dragged and dropped that .sis file to the phone, it confiemrd to be installed, accepted, good…

… but the shutter still made noise, even re-start the phone, going to silent mode, switch warning tone on and off, – it still made noise…

Back to PC Suite again: do not use the drag and drop function but go to “install applications”, go to the folder where you stored the signed mute-camera.sis file, select it, click on the arrow to start installation, the phone will ask you “install application?…” and tell it “continue”. It installed quickly, no troubles, I tried, and it worked in general mode with warning tones off. To test it I turned warning tones on and it made noise again, turned warning tones off and the shutter shut up again ;-)

summary: I’m a happy owner of a “quite cam E71″ since ten minutes and want to let you know about it. Special thanks to Symbian but this talking about three whatever zip files is confusing people, just tell others to let them get the .sis file signed by you, everything is fine…

The red light is annoying while taking close-up. It make everything red. I found a patch call “ccam” which can disable both the shutter sound and the red light but only for old model nokia phone. It does not work for N97! We hope that some white knight will appear to solve this problem shortly ! As I always take picture for small object. The red light make every picture with red tone. I hate the red light!

    So, is it really harmful?

Very odd! I downloaded the patch and got the signed version from ‘Open Signed Online’ for my E71. It worked fine and installed without problem on my E71.

FAILURE: Submitted .sis file uses a UID that is not in the protected or test range (0x10202be9). Open Signed Online only accepts UIDs from the ranges 0x2xxxxxxx and 0xExxxxxxx

Thinking there might be a problem with the IMEI, i tried my earlier successful E71 IMEI with the same sis file that worked previously, yet the site produced the same failure message!

to those of you who went to symbiansigned and got the ‘FAILURE: Submitted .sis file uses a UID…’ notice, try going to opda to get the cert, and upload the file using a different browser. I was using Mozilla and kept having problems getting it signed (both symbiansigned and opda), but once I switched to IE it worked.

  • E71 in USA said:

For those having trouble signing the file, goto this alternative site:

Access this website, and register an account:

    http://cer.opda.cn/en/index.php?module=index

Follow the indications for registering, there shouldn’t be any problems here.
After registering and confirming registration, login and go in “My certificate”. Register a new certificate, with “Apply cer”.
Fill in the gaps. This is how i did it as example:
    Model: E71
    Remark: Granknights′s E71
    IMEI: (obtained by *#06#)
Confirm: now you have to wait until the certificate gets approved. I don’t know how long it takes, because after submitting i went to sleep. However, the second time i checked, 14 hours later, the certificate was ready.
Go in “Signing Softs”, then scroll to “>>Upload the software which need to be signed”.
Upload the file. As soon as you’ve uploaded it it will get signed, and you can download it immediately. Send the file to your E71 and install it. If you did all the steps correctly it will work, as it did for me.

As from symbianblog nxt “freesigner” is getting the document signed in hp itself. Do I still need to do this step?

Open signed refuses to sign it. If your’e going to the trouble to program it, is it really that much more trouble to get is properly signed? Post decent software or just don’t bother with this websh*t.

THIS DOES NOT WORK .. HAS BEEN POSTED ON OTHER SITES

JEEZ PROGRAMMERS ARE SO SCARED THEY HAVE TO MAKE “UNSIGNED” APPLICATIONS

    RATHER THAN SIGNED APPLICATIONS

I GUESS THIS IS DUE TO THE “LAWS” OF THE SO CALLED “U.S.” GOVERNMENT

JUST LIKE THE FACT THAT THE 5800 AUDIO IS ALSO RESTRICTED

    DUE TO E.U REGULATIONS

    DAMN IT I HATE NOKIA

    FUCK NOKIA
    FUCK ALL THE NOKIA HANDSETS
im just gonna buy a simple mp3 player for now and a SERIOUS 15 MP DIGITAL CAMERA

    O DID I FORGET ???? FUCK NOKIA :@

yea admins can remove my comment

atleast someone will read the truth :@ _|_

Got the below error when i tried to sign the .sis file using Open Signed website,
FAILURE: Submitted .sis file uses a UID that is not in the protected or test range (0x10202be9). Open Signed Online only accepts UIDs from the ranges 0x2xxxxxxx and 0xExxxxxxx.

any ideas how to overcome this?
i would like to avoid the hassle of getting my own certificate

SWEEEET! nice one. Installed on 5230 firmware 210004 if i remember correctly. Signed by Imobilehelper (learn chinese or google) which i advise to all. Installed via ovi, warned not for this moby and warned a couple of other things but i allowed etc. Works with warnings off. PERFECT! I have CFWed and cooked a few times but never been happy. Much better to just patch things you want done but leave the Nokia fw as much as possible Nockiafied :)
To Umar, a few posts up. Calm down dear. You are the problem. You could not use the software/hardware/patch. It is your problem. You. hahahaha. Nice
