I have received word that Nokia is holding a India launch of the 5230 touch handset in Bangalore on Sunday, the 3rd of January in Bangalore and the best part is that they are inviting all of you to join in. The event will be at the Garuda Mall in Bangalore, 7:00 pm onwards and will also see a Swarathma concert.
To top it all Nokia will also be giving away devices at meetup as well. So if you are in Bangalore, go there for the 5230 or the music or …

BlueMaemo is a free application that converts your N900 into a host of bluetooth peripherals including a keyboard, mouse, media remote, gamepad, presentation remote and even a PS3 controller. The application is available via the application manager under the System head if you have the extras-devel repository enabled. If not, click here for instructions on how to do so.
Maemo Italia has a video of the application in action, connected to a PS3. Unfortunately, the video is in Italian but you should still be able to make out most of what …

Applications in Maemo are broadly categorised into three sections. Extras, Extras-Testing and Extras-Devel. Extras house those applications that are ready for all users, Extras-Testing houses applications which are not yet ready for normal users and are in a sort of beta. Extras-Devel is the place where applications reside when they are in the alpha mode and definitely not ready for the average consumer.
As you can imagine, the idea is to protect the new consumer from applications that can cause crashes, sluggish performance and other serious problems in the N900. But …

In a surprise but very welcome development, the N82 and both variants of the N95 have received a firmware update, taking them to v35. Specifically, the N95 (RM-159) is upto 35.0.02 & the N95 8GB (RM-320) is at 35.0.01 and the latest firmware for the N82 is now v35.0.002.
There is no changelog available yet and I am going through my drawers to look for my own N95 to update. Just a word of caution before you dive in yourself, just remember there is no user data preservation, so make sure …

We all know that the N900 has very limited portrait mode functionality for now, only the telephone section and the odd 3rd party application support it. However, a glitch or two sometimes forces the N900 into portrait mode and if you are wondering how that looks, check out these screenshots below.
The new N900 firmware which is supposed to come around Christmas is expected to bring a little more portrait mode support, for the web browser specifically. My top picks for the title of ‘desperately need portrait mode’ are …

The events.nokia.com page has just been updated and it now holds the answer to why did Nokia choose not to exhibit at the Mobile World Congress 2010. As I (and a few others) expected, Nokia is indeed holding an event of its own walking distance from the venue of the MWC on the 15-16 February.
As an alternative to the noise and crowds at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, invited guests can relax on comfy sofas, enjoy delicious food and drinks as they discuss the industry and network with their peers — …

With the N900, one of the things that I have missed is using the dual LED as a flashlight in the dark and as a source of illumination while recording video. Fortunately, a simple app called ‘Flashlight’ can change all that. Once installed, it adds a toggle switch to the N900′s status bar which you can tap to enable or disable the flashlight.
The Flashlight switch will only show if the camera cover has been slid open. To use it in the video mode, start the flashlight and start video capture, …

A native Skype application for Symbian has just entered beta for Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and Feature Pack 2 devices, there is no support for S60 5th Edition yet but the press release promises support for even more devices with the production release which is expected in Q1 next year.
The Symbian version of Skype supports free Skype-to-Skype calling, calling phones with Skype credits or subscriptions, receiving calls on your Online Number, Instant Messaging …

Nimbuzz for Symbian has just received a very welcome update adding a host of functionality including support for Twitter, pop-up notifications and kinetic scrolling for S60 5th Edition handsets. If you are new to Nimbuzz, it is an application that allows you to IM across diffirent services such as Skype, Google, Windows Live etc and make VOIP calls amongst other things.
I have just tried the Twitter functionality and I have got to say it feels a lot like Gravity, which is definitely not a bad thing, add to this the …
