Nokia N900 PR 1.2 Firmware Coming This Wednesday?

Just because speculating is fun, I am going to point you to this Nokia Italy Facebook page from which stems the news that the N900 might finally be getting the much awaited PR 1.2 firmware come Wednesday. We had been promised an update by the end of May so this seems just about right, unless Nokia plans to take ‘end of May’ really seriously and release it next Monday on May 31.

Nokia N900 PR 1.2 Firmware Coming This Wednesday?

In any case I’m not too worried about when the update actually comes along, my N900 is performing well enough, yes I want the Qt goodness but frankly there are not many Qt apps waiting in the wings anyway. But there is one things I must say, Nokia has taken its own sweet the testing the firmware so I hope they deliver a fantastic update, an issue here will really have the users wanting blood.

Meanwhile the N900 PR 1.2 speculation thread and crossed 6800 posts and continues to serve as a great source of entertainment if you are trying to kill time waiting for the update.

  1. Theres more chance of me showing my arse in Harrods window this week than Nokia handing us PR1.2. As secods pass by loyal nokites are getting less loyal and wandering in other directions. We’ve been taken for granted by nokia with their pathetic performance in supporting the n900 and bringing it up to spack with rest of the market. People who once only looked at nokia are now looking at apple htc blackberry sony ericsson motorola and samsung and realising the grass is actually greener.

  2. Nokia appears to be one of those modern lessons learned companies that never actually learns. Its seems to be resting on its laurels of having large market share while leaving a slug trail of failed questionably supported smart models. From N96 to N97 to N900 they all caused masses of Nokia users to defect to other brands.

  3. It would be about frigging time! As a recent Nexus One purchaser I think this update is going to be too little too late for me.

On a related note: Android 2.2 (“FroYo”) is fairly buggy on my Nexus One (and presumably everyone else’s)… this experience has proven to me that YES, I would prefer an update PLAGUED WITH BUGS to NO UPDATE AT ALL.

If Nokia had got their crap together sooner and released this when the web sites were first reporting (March I think) I probably wouldn’t have sought other pastures, even if PR1.2 was buggy.

Here’s a clue Nokia: if you aren’t going to release the update, at least give an official list of improvements. Gee, I wonder if they’ll finally get the N900 caught up with the aughts and get picture messaging BUILT RIGHT INTO THE PHONE!

It’s amazing that Nokia, probably the biggest player in the cell phone manufacturing game, is repeating Apple’s f***-ups more than two years later.
