On the drive to work today I caught a Nokia advertisement on the radio and decided to do a bit of digging. Apparently Nokia India has introduced a scheme under which you can buy your favourite Nokia device and pay in 3 monthly installments and that too at 0% interest.
The scheme is valid for any Nokia device above the Rs. 7000 mark and is available in eight Indian cities that include NCR (Delhi-Gurgaon-Noida), Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. This facility is only available when you pay via …

The ability to overclock the N900 has existed for a long time now and we have covered it before. But overclocking the N900 has never been so easy, two simple installs from the Application Manager and a short command via the terminal is all it takes. If you have been wanting to try it out but were holding out because it seemed too complicated, this guide is for you.
However, please note that overclocking the N900 will void your warranty, although it is possible to the flash to the stock kernel/state …

In most areas the N900 supports the ability to start typing to automatically search for the relevant content. For example on the homescreen you can starting typing the name of a contact to see it appear without having to goto the contacts application, the same in Conversations and the Application Manager.
The one place that the N900 does not do this is the menu, and if you have a lot of applications installed searching for the one that you are looking for quickly becomes a pain. Enter App Search Widget by …

Apple’s just dragged Nokia into the antennagate controversy again this week with a video showing how it drops signal if held in a particular manner. At their press conference on Friday last week they had mentioned Nokia as part of the manufacturers whose handsets also drop bars when held in the hand, but had not shown off a video of this happening on any Nokia. Today their page was updated with the Nokia N97 Mini ‘death grip’ video.
Soon after the Apple Press Conference, Nokia had issued a statement saying that …

The spec sheet on the Nokia N8 mentions ‘Active Hyper-focal Distance’ as the method used by it during video capture and unless you did some research on your own, I’m sure all of you are wondering how exactly does it work (I was). In part 2 of the making of the N8′s camera (part 1 was about photography), Damian Dinning explains exactly how that works, and why Nokia chose it over continuous auto focus and focus at the beginning of the exposure.
So instead of I saying the same thing in …

We all take images of documents as a quick way of making notes, but the shots time time to compose so that you get the alignment right and so on. But if you have a N900, you no longer need to worry about that because benlau has published a brilliant app called Front View (FrontView900) that makes this process fun.
You can take the image anyway you want without having to align the document and the app will automatically detect which part of the image is the document and discard the …

Thanks to @_Nexus on Twitter, I’ve just come across these short ad films that Intel’s produced to showcase MeeGo. If MeeGo has to succeed in a big way, advertising and brand recognition will have to play a major role and its good to see Intel start now.
The ad film is more developer focused, but I though you might to watch it anyway.

Marco Barisione’s just released an app called ‘Ringtoned’ for the N900 that brings the ability to set custom ringtones for each contact in the N900′s phonebook. The best part about this app is that it integrates well with the N900 as there’s no standalone setup, you can asign a default ringtone from the Profiles menu as usual and for custom ringtones, just go to the Contacts application, select the contact and press the new ‘Set custom ringtone’ button in the menu.
Search for ‘custom ringtones’ in the application manager after …

The Wi-Fi Alliance is nearing publication of a specification for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ Wi-Fi Direct, in other words “Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer”, which will enable Wi-Fi devices to connect securely without needing a traditional hotspot. This means that two devices could connect with each other over Wi-Fi much in the same way as they do over bluetooth as of now.
But once the Wi-Fi Direct implementation becomes popular, smartphones, cameras, printers, PCs, keyboards and headphones will be able to connect to each other to transfer content and share …
