The MeeGo 1.1 images for the N900 have just been released into the wild and are now available for download. But before you get too excited, do keep in mind that MeeGo 1.1 not ready to be used as a primetime OS on the N900 and that the images have been released following a release cycle, rather than waiting for everything to mature first.
MeeGo 1.1 is a stepping stone to MeeGo 1.2 which will make the user experience to an acceptable level. There is active discussion happening about the present …

We have known that Nokia’s been working on a new Web Browser for a long time now, but without any indication of how it was coming along, until today. A video’s just popped up courtesy My Nokia Blog, that shows off the new web browser and the improvements to the N8′s homescreen. The flicking between homescreens is smooth and there is now a drag effect giving you a faster, smoother feel.
The web browser does look like a huge step in the right direction. The bottom menu bar is history, the …

The Nokia N8 has been available for just two weeks and there’s already a new Symbian^3 handset that’s hitting the market in the form of the C7. Both of them run the same OS, share the same guts and are priced pretty near to each other.
So if you are in the market for a new Nokia, which one should you be looking at?

There is no easy to use noob guide to dual boot between Maemo and MeeGo on the N900 yet, but if you want a sneak peak at the signs of things to come, Carsten Munk (@stskeeps) has put together a brief demo showing the N900 booting between Maemo and MeeGo pretty seamlessly.
Carsten is the official maintainer of the MeeGo Nokia N900 hardware adaptation and goes on to say:
MeeGo 1.1 isn’t out yet, give us a little bit of time. What will happen if things go right:
* Package install from extras-devel …

Well in time for the MeeGo Conference next month, Nokia has just started the rollout of the all new PR 1.3 firmware (v20.2010.36-2) for the N900. The update is available over the air (OTA) in the UK with other countries expected to follow suit tomorrow. It should also be available via Nokia’s Software Updater in the coming days.
Once the firmware images become available, you can also simply grab the vanilla version for PR 1.3 for your region and get flashing using this guide. If you are on a Mac, this …

When ‘Comes With Music’ was first launched, I was skeptical. There were obvious evils, DRM’d tracks, additional cost for the service when you could get the same handset for cheaper without it, a not so stellar PC client, no Mac support to name the popular ones. The rollout of CWM devices was slow, scattered and thus adoption slow. It never really got the popularity that some of Nokia’s other Ovi services such as Maps received and didn’t become a huge selling point. That should change, here’s why.
The price at which …

Today Nokia put out a press release outlining its Symbian and MeeGo strategy, a release which should put a smile on a lot of Symbian^3 users’ faces. It announced that Qt will be its sole application development framework to ensure that applications will continue to be compatible with future evolutions of Symbian as well as upcoming MeeGo products. Also that it would also be putting its weight behind HTML5 for development of Web content and applications for both Symbian and MeeGo platforms and that it will develop …

It seems that changes at Nokia are being followed in letter and spirit at the Symbian headquarters as well. Lee Williams has stepped down from his role of Executive Director at Symbian for personal reasons and his role will be taken over by Tim Holbrow (@timholbrow) with immediate effect.
We’ve received a statement from Steve Warner, Head of HR at Symbian who goes on to say that:
‘The Symbian Foundation is today announcing that Lee M. Williams has stepped down from his position as Executive Director for personal reasons. …

The Nokia N8 comes with a preloaded application called Social that offers a degree of social integration between the phonebook and sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Sadly, its only a half hearted attempt compared to what’s available on Android and even the N900 with the wonderful Hermes application. You manually need enter each contact, hit the social networks button, wait for app to search for that name on the social networks you have added and only then can you do something with it.
Anyway, this post isn’t about expressing …

The Nokia C7 has been blessed with Swype officially. The application is available for the download via the Ovi Store and since the C7 is also a Symbian^3 device, just like the N8, the same version also works on it. So how do you go about downloading it? Simple, fool the Ovi Store into thinking you have a C7. Just visit this Ovi Store link, manually change your device to the C7, hit the send to mobile button. Open the text message that you receive on the your mobile and …
