Jolla Breathes A New Life Into MeeGo, Ex-Nokians To Continue Development

Just when you thought MeeGo was a closed chapter, comes news that ex-Nokians who worked on the N9 and the MeeGo community are coming together to ‘continue Nokia’s excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones’. The new project is called ‘Jolla’, which apparently when translated from Finnish means a better rescue boat, an obvious yet cheeky reference to the infamous burning platform memo.

This is great news for those of you who thought the MeeGo was the way to go for Nokia, but before you get too excited remember that doesn’t meant that your N9 will magically start getting updates from Jolla. That being said, you never know what the community might be able to achieve.

Exciting times if you’re a MeeGo fan.

  1. Meego is the natural evolutionary successor to Windows and iOS.

    It cannot be stopped.

Meego is the future, and now with Jolla, there is light for the future. The Jolla team is making aggressive statements regarding their MeeGo development. CEO Jussi Hurmola stated that they will be revealing a MeeGo-based smartphone later this year. They have been working on this project and the OS since the end of 2011.

The Jolla project will go down in history as the first company to have a global market and fiercely loyal and passionate customer base even before their product is launch.

The future of open source has just been reborn.

    Light up the darkness!!!

  2. Jolla Mobile Ltd announcement that they shall release a Smartphone with MeeGo OS in the end of 2012 prove that MeeGo as linuxbased OS is suitable
for beeing a competetive OS for Smartphones and hopefully even for tablet pc.
Now when Nokia management don´t believe in linuxbased OS for Smartphones.
Nokia management which have declared that they shall not use Meltemi OS for Nokia cheapest mobile phones with Symbian 40.
Meltemi which also are based on MeeGo like the Merproject Mer OS also are.
MeeGo as OS is more open in their development than Android is, as not so many seems not to now.

  3. This is a really good read for me,”Jolla Breathes A New Life Into MeeGo, Ex-Nokians To Continue Development”

  4. Still I can’t understand why Nokia have N9 and Lumia at the same time. Jolla can promote N9 a lot, but how about the Lumia ? Stress on several products equals to nothing. Hope Jolla can help N9 to be the bully in the market, or the cooperation will just sound ridiculous.
