Web TV is Nokia’s new video on demand application that will be pre-loaded on the Nokia N8 and possibly other Symbian^3 devices when they ship. To put it simply, Web TV is basically Flash lite video streamed over WIFI or 3G from a host of different content providers that vary from country to country.
There are a bunch of channels pre-loaded on each device based the regions the device is shipping to and you can even download more from the Ovi Store from right withing the Web TV application. While the …

You know what, forget the iPhone. Lets put the N8 up against some serious firepower, a DSLR which in this case is a 18 Megapixel Canon 550D, fitted with the 18-55mm kit lens. You’ve seen unedited pictures and video that Iain and I took with the N8 around Edinburgh. However I was also carrying my Canon 550D along and we decided to put the N8 to test and see how it fares against a full blown DSLR, nevermind those pocket point and shoot cameras. The results may surprise.
But before we …

Yesterday you saw the beautiful pictures the Nokia N8 is capable of producing, today we put its HD video capture to test. The N8 is Nokia’s first device that is capable of capturing video in the 1280 x 720 resolution. It records at around 90MB a minute capturing 25 frames a second. Another thing that Nokia has brought back from the N93/N93i era is stereo audio capture, powered by its dual microphones.
To give you a real world scenario of the quality you can expect from the Nokia N8′s video camera, …

After having used the Nokia N8 to take pictures while I was visiting Edinburgh, no doubt remains in my mind that the Nokia N8 is the absolute best camera phone that you can buy in the market today. We took a ton of pictures and video in very trying situations, without bothering to stop and compose a shot properly. Most images you see here were taken while walking around the city, N8 in hand simply snapping away. Some were taken from within a car, a bus, while actually walking (without …

Consuming high megapixel photos on a mobile is never fun. The phone, no matter how fast it is, can never seem to keep up when you start flicking through them in the gallery. The Nokia N8 takes humongous 12 megapixel images, which as you can image must be a nightmare to load.
Even the latest 1 Ghz Android devices with their 5 Megapixel Cameras have trouble making those images fly, so you can image what it must be like on the supposedly ‘low spec’ N8?
Its blazing fast. You can keep swiping …

At Nokia World, Nokia gave out 1000 N8′s to all those who attended the first developer session. The devices have the production hardware and the PR 1.0 software, however even the PR 1.0 on those was not the commercial version with which the N8′s will ship soon.
I was unlucky to miss out on the handsets, fortunately my friend Iain Wallace at Do It Different was able to get his hands on one and was kind enough to let me have a go at the N8 for the entire time I …

In addition to the Ovi Store, another thing that will benefit immensely on the N8 and other Symbian^3 devices is Ovi Maps. Not only has it been updated with a bunch of improvements to maps and the search functionality but the new 3.06 beta also brings pinch to zoom into the fold making Ovi Maps an even more compelling service.
I lay everything down in the video below.

One of the new things that the N8 brings is a completely revamped Ovi Store which offers a much more pleasing experience that not only makes finding content easier, also makes sure that you don’t have to go through hoops trying to download an application.
Gone are the options within menus, the overall speed of the Ovi Store is much faster and easily comparable to the competition. It is finally something that you would expect of a company like Nokia. You can seamlessly transfer old purchases to the new phone and …

I have just got back from day one of Nokia World and clearly the star of the show was the Nokia E7, a device that Nokia believes is the ultimate ‘business’ smartphone. It has a great keyboard which has a zero learning curve, the keys are nicely spaced out, the sides offer a good grip and you can fire away almost immediately you pick up the device.
There are also the usual Symbian ^3 goodies like USB on-the-go, support for bluetooth mice and keyboard. There is also HDMI, 720P HD video …
