I haven’t been this excited about an application in ages. Grid Touch by OffScreen, a company that has had over 25 million downloads from the Ovi Store. What does it do you ask? It very elegantly eliminates the need to ever go into the default menu again and replaces it with a very modern swipe based access that it an absolute joy to use.
Grid Touch lets you find, organise and launch all your apps with a very pleasing and fast UI. All your apps are organised on a grid of 9 zoomable pages and you can move from page to page by swiping up/down/left/right. But because text cannot demonstrate the fluidity of the app, I’ve put together a quick video demo.
If you are looking for a particular app and cannot find it, the app lets you quickly search with a built in portrait QWERTY keyboard. You can also move an app icon by holding it for 2 seconds, similarly rename a page by holding the title for 2 seconds and exit or update the Grid app by touching the offscr logo in the lower right corner.
I love a page based app layout that doesn’t involve scrolling, Symbian didn’t do that till now but I’m glad its been made possible by the free Grid app, I suggest you grab it from the Ovi Store now!
The only thing missing is the ability to set this as the default goto app for the menu button, because seriously after experiencing this who will want to go back to the old layout?
