Comes With Music Goes DRM Free In China – More Countries To Follow?

Nokia has just announced that it will launching the ‘Comes With Music’ offering in China under the name ‘Yue Sui Xiang’ in partnership with local mobile company Huadong Feitian. China is the biggest market for Nokia and the move comes as no surprise, but the fact that the offering will be DRM free is huge. This means that ‘Comes With Music’ owners in China will be able to download as many songs as they like from the Music Store, free of cost and will also be able to transfer it to other devices that they own.

Comes With Music Goes DRM Free In China - More Countries To Follow?

The cost of the music will be bundled into the price of the phone and the slight increase would be well worth the all round free access to international music as well as local artists. Nokia’s policy, from all indications was going to be to offer ‘Comes With Music’ as a DRM’d service and sell individual tracks and albums DRM free via the Music Store, but this move marks a welcome shift in what appeared to be their policy.

At launch, consumers in China can get unlimited music downloads with the purchase of any one of eight devices, to include the Nokia X6 32GB and Nokia X6 16GB, Nokia 5230, Nokia 5330, Nokia 5800w, Nokia 6700s, Nokia E52 and Nokia E72i. Entry level prices will start from EUR 140, excluding local taxes and subsidies.

The press release also mentions India in the list of countries to get ‘Comes With Music’, DRM free I hope.
